For two years, photographer RYAN MCGINLEY traveled throughout the US, UK, France and Mexico attending Morrissey concerts and photographing every conceivable aspect and angle of the performances.
The result is «Irregular Regulars», a series of absolute brilliance and magic.
Ok, so skinhead style is all the rage at the moment. Can´t blame the stylists and designers though - ´cause you know you love it. The boots, the suspenders, bleachers and the shaved heads.
But where are the girls?
I can´t believe the oh-so-innovative-and-cutting-edge-stylists have not tapped into the whole Chelsea Girl-look. I mean, the feather cut is fucking hot!
I found this web zine dedicated to skin girls: CHECK OUT SKINBYRD

When i was a very young boy ... this is what i longed for ... At 13 i got my first Adam & The Ants t-shirt. My mother did not know what to make of me as i walked proudly around with girls i bondage and ball gags on my chest, singing «Ant music for Sex people // Sex music for Ant people».

Soft Cell, and especially Marc Almond, came to view their biggest hit, «Tainted Love» from 1981, as an albatross ... or you could say: a monster. Who can blame them? «Tainted Love» is one of the biggest hits ever, and the reason Soft Cell is now refeard to as a «one hit band». Well, the are NOT a one-hit-wonder!
«Tainted Love» was composed by Ed Cobb and originally recorded in 1964 by Gloria Jones. But it is Soft Cell`s version everyone knows today.
From the single «Tainted Love» to the debut album «Non Stop Erotic Cabaret» Soft Cell had a string of hits. Much to the record labels surprise i might add.
Then they released the EP «Non Stop Ecstatic Dancing» which is often referd to as «the first ecstasy-record» ... Well, i won´t argue about that. The record is fueld with drugs and tales inspired by the nightlife and hedonism of New York.
There are numerous versions of «Tainted Love» around. Some good and some tragic ...
I´d like to share two of them. First up is Coil and their version from 1985. And second is a version by Impedance from 1989.

IMPEDANCE «TAINTED LOVE»
EYE CANDY Coil's cover and subsequent video of «Tainted Love» was their reaction to the aids epidemic of the era, mid-to-late 1980's. Marc Almond, of Soft Cell, play the role of the angel of death in the video. The video was initially banned and dubbed obscene, but was later placed in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art. All profits from the sale of this release were donated to the Terrence Higgins Trust aids charity.
Bronski Beat`s «Smalltown Boy» is such a classic. I remeber the thrill i felt when i first played Bronski Beat`s debut album «The Age Of Consent» way back in december 1984. Needless to say it made a big impact on me and my journey out of the closet ... ah, those were the days ...
«Smalltown Boy» is a favoured cover tune. In 1996, Tori Amos used part of the song while preforming «Father Lucifer» on Late Night with David Letterman, singing the chorus «Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away».
Paradise Lost, a Gothic Metal band from England, covered «Smalltown Boy» and released it as a bonus track on their «Symbol of Life» album.
The Wounded, a Dutch Doom/Gothic Metal band, also covered «Smalltown Boy» on their debut album «The Art of Grief».
In 2006, Supermode released «Tell Me Why», containing melodic samples from «Smalltown Boy» and lyrics from another Bronski Beat track titled «Why?».
In 2007, José González covered «Smalltown Boy» and released it as a b-side on the single for his own «Down the Line».
And here is yet a new and fresh approach, from England. THE GADSDENS «SMALLTOWN BOY»
Larry Levan holds an important place in the history of disco music and gay nightlife as the resident DJ of the Continental Steam Baths and the Paradise Garage. His obsessive attention to the narrative and perceptual possibilities of mixing during his tenure at the Garage has become the stuff of urban legend.
Enjoy Matmos and their tribute to the legend, Larry Levan
