The Runaways: Peaches and JD Samson

Next up for Peaches & Herms is the single «Boys Wanna Be Her» and here you have the video dear punters.

Now, do you remember THE RUNAWAYS? I do ... They were my heroines. Can still remember running home from the recordshop with «Waiting For The Night» in my hands. The girls posed with fierce, and arrogant, looks, with their hands wrapped around barb wire. So f**kin` kool! Then came «The Runaways Live In Japan» with gatefold sleeve. Amaaazing!

All that was way before punkrock got hold of me. And it did in the end ... So i traded «...Live In Japan» for some forgotten punk compilation. Idiot! Then i turned 40 ... and what did i get? My dj-sidekick Chris Lynch had heard the story and actually went online and found the missing diamond in my collection. So now i`m once again the lucky owner of «The Runaways live In Japan».

All of this happened at the same time as Peaches hooked up with my heroine Joan Jett to make the record «Impeach My Bush». Peaches also went out an got hold a new heroine of mine, JD Samson. It`s just one of those things i guess ... everything goes around in circles. Lovely! Joan Jett has been busy as well. Out with a new album now and a kick ass video for the song «ACDC» - i guess you can figure out what the theme is. If not, i`ll get back to you on that one.

But back to Peaches and her new band Herms.
They are crashlanding in Oslo, John Dee, september 13th.
And i`m going!

Brokeback Mountain`s gotta a hold of my heart

What can i say? Just found this early this morning whilst getting ready to go to work. It sort of made me feel happy/sad/emo/twisted ... you know that feeling right? No? So it`s just me then ...
The thing is, i just saw Brokeback Mountain once – that was enough. Loved it and broke (ha ha ha) down completely at the end. Why? Well, i have not got a fetish for either cowboys or sheep but you know ... it`s that universal feeling of belonging every time we see gay love being show non a silver screen.
Now, i have to admit i`ve got a big fetish for Marc Almond. I had to leave work the day he had his motorcycle accident. I was a complete mess ... And now Gene Pitney is gone. So .. all that made me fall for this mash up-video this morning. Ok?

Just finished moving out of the closet i`ve been living in for ages. No i`m not speaking in metaphores. It was tiny! Just enough room for my bed, records and me and Munin - my grumpy queen of a siamese cat.
I did not move far though. Just to another room. But it has created enough drama for me let me tell ya ... Going through last years, and the year before, newspapers and magazines. Hell, i was sleeping on them in the end. I`m a lazy bitch!

Jonte' is the new shit!
Remember the documentary PARIS IS BURNING?
The movie covered the scene that invented voguing.
Made in 1991 Paris Is Burning closes with two neon-lit boys holding each other on the streets of Harlem. One looks into the camera and asks, «So this is New York City and what the gay lifestyle is all about--right?» This documentary takes an honest, humorous, and surprisingly poignant peek into one of America's overlooked subcultures: the world of the urban drag queen. It's a parallel dimension of bizarre beauty, where «houses» vie like gangs for turf and reputation ... only instead of street-fighting, they vogue their way down makeshift catwalks in competitive "balls." The only rule of the ballroom: be real.

Well, Malcolm McLaren brought voguing out on vinyl and Madonna brought it on tour and on to MTV. They jumped the bandwagon of course, but at the same time it brought the antics of vouge, runway out to a wider audience. And then it went silent ... i think.

The other day i was surfing around MySpace when suddenly i stopped. Someone seemed to have made a cover of Vanity6 and their «Make Up».
Now i love that song. Both the original and several cover versions - like the Soft Pink Thruth version.

This time it was an artist by the name of Jonte' who was tearing it up. And who is this Jonte' i hear you ask ... Well, besides being fabulous, talented and a fierce personality this is the story:
Born and raised in Portland Oregon, Jonté began dance training at age 13 with choreographer Kim Borgaro (Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie). Under her guidance, he trained in Ballet, Flamenco, African and Modern Dance at the Oregon Ballet Theatre. Jonté went on to become a member of the nationally acclaimed Jefferson Dancers and performed in the African AmeriKan Ballet for four years. This brought Jonté to New York were he then trained at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. Jontés first professional job was as featured dancer for Latin recording artist, Thalia at her Madison Square Garden concert. From there, Jonté went on to concert, television and video performances with Jordan Knight, Mya, Mario, Ciara and Carmit of the Pussy Cat Dolls just to name a few. But, his crowning achievements were Madonnas Confessions on the Dance Floor documentary and the now infamous 2004 Janet Jackson Super Bowl performance. These two experiences were career - defining moments. After dancing for two of the most important artists in the history of the music industry, Jonté knew what his next move had to be. With varying artists from Grace Jones to Nina Simone as his inspiration, Jonté has moved from the background into the spotlight. By bringing shock and drama but ultimately entertainment to the music industry, he promises to be one of the edgiest performers to come along. His exotic look and style has already garnered him coverage in such publications as, The Ones, Quixote's Chin Magazine, Elle Magazine and a featured model wearing the latest Couture by Patricia Fields and Dutchess in the first issue of Gazelland with Boy George. To catch a sneak preview of things to come, Jonté can often be seen on Thursday nights at New York City hotspot, Duvet, wrecking the stage at Kenny Kenny and Boy George's party Rich Powerful Beautiful and Famous along with club luminaries, Richie Rich, Amanda Lepore and Sophia Lamar. I heart James Dean Bradfield

I fuckin` love MANIC STREET PREACHERS!

...and i love the young James Dean Bradfield. Remeber seeing them at Alaska in Oslo during their tour to promote their debut album «Generation Terrorists».
Me and my friend were two out of about twenty people in front of the stage. We did not care. We were transfixed and gazed at the stage - there was James Dean Bradfield in whyite jeans and nothing else, except his guitar of course ...

«Little Baby Nothing» from the album was released as a single and featured the infamous Traci Lord on vocals.

But first; a few words by Steven Wells about the director Nick Small and his idea of music videoes:
«I WOKE up Monday morning and decided to become a pop video director. The Manic Street Preachers, those over-educated punky Welsh working-class homoerotic situationists with a death wish and a mega-yen recording contract were about to release a single, so I hammered out a treatment with my friend, Nick Small and arranged to meet the record company.

"Basically," says Nick, "the song Little Baby Nothing is about women's oppression, so we start with a little girl getting her head jumped on by a horrible old man and end with a woman committing suicide by shooting herself between the legs, having gained her revenge in the meantime by killing all the men."

"Um," said the man from Sony Records. "I'm a bit worried about the graffiti." So we dropped the graffiti and the little girl getting her head stomped on and the woman shooting herself and the scene where the little girl with the flame thrower roasts all the Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine fans and we got our feet under the table with ace production company Visionbridge. And The Man from Sony, he say - well, all right then. We were staggered, could it really be this easy?

There are enough male duo`s out there to make the world go round, twice. There are some utter crap out there as well. But some of the boy duo`s are worth their 15 minutes, and more.

Let`s start with: Man2Man
The brothers Mikki and Paul Zone was Man To Man, a Hi-NRG disco act from New York. They worked with the infamous producer Bobby Orlando and released hit singles during the 80s. Another band claimed the rights to the name and the brothers changed it to Man2Man.
Under this name the band scored their biggest hit «Male Stripper», teaming up with cult/electro/queer producer Man Parrish.
Originally released in the United Kingdom in 1986 on the Bolts record label, «Male Stripper» was a big club hit.

I have a signed photograph of Betty Ford. I sent her a sobbing letter about my troubled childhood, and how she had been a light in the dark ... or something. She fell for it, or did she?
Included in the letter from Betty Ford was a note asking for a donation since it took a lot of time and effort to send out signed photographs.
Come again?

We took her picture, cut some lines on it, threw on our «Clean & Serene» t-shirts and
captured it on film.
Somehow Betty did not see the cleverness and would not use it to promote her clinic ... Bitch!

Years later i am still walking around with the monkey on my back. We get along, even if we have our up`s and down`s.

Pop pop pop popmusic is SO gay ...

The long promised, and longed for, wave of italo never hit Norway. Well, at least Oslo seems to have escaped it. Damn!
Although, whilst in Bergen - spinning records at Bergen Gay Pride... insane and not to be experienced again – we saw where the wave had stopped. Yes, Bergen. My hometown. There is a vibrant italo scene there. And out of it came an amazing record recently. Skatebård «Midnight Magic». I´ll get back to Skatebård another day, but check him out. His work is brilliant!

While we were sitting in Oslo the past two years hopeing for a italo revival i found this incredible track on the fab lable HOT BANANA.
It took hold of me and made me blush. I behaved like a schoolboy in heat, and with shameful, lusty energy oozing from every pore of my pop-body!

Naommon «I Am Not Ashamed» was the answer to my prayers. Not totally italo. Just full of elements of pure pop magic. Electropop and euro-feelings galore!
And, i found out, there is no reason to be ashamed. Throw your hands in the air and give yourself over to the magic.

The swedes have had it for years. The pop sensebility i mean.
I was never a huge fan of Army Of Lovers, but when Alexander Bard came up with Bodies Without Organs it was like a pop dream come true...

Bard is also breeding horses, a side project i guess. His business partner, Ulrich, has also started his own pop squad; Nouveau Rich.
At first the duo just made me laugh with embarassment. «Oh Lord» was their first single and ... well, took me nowhere fast.

However: the new one, «Hardcore Life» was the song that made me look up Naommon again. It`s got the same quality as «I Am Not Ashamed».
And, you know what? The swedes are seldom ashamed. They may all look like faggots and like manequins... but maybe that is what they are. Maybe Stockholm is in fact Liquid Sky, the movie.
I think i need sleep now, don`t you?

The sound of a pink narcissus

When Coil got lost in the tragedy of the death of Jhonn Balance i was also lost ... Now i have many friends who have been promoting the sound of Matmos and told me i would love them i never really listened too closely. Their new album, «The Rose Has Teeth In The Mouth Of A Beast» changed that ... I have been a huge fan of Drew Daniel`s side project The Soft Pink Truth, but it took these hymns to a large number of queer heroes and villains to make me sit down and listen closely to Matmos.

Larry Levan (nee Lawrence Philpot, 1954 -1992) holds an important place in the history of disco music and gay nightlife as the resident DJ of the Continental Steam Baths and the Paradise Garage. His obsessive attention to the narrative and perceptual possibilities of mixing during his tenure at the Garage has become the stuff of urban legend. His dub-inflected, psychedelic remixes of artists such as Loose Joints, Ednah Holt, and Class Action exemplify a promiscuous, open-ended approach to dance music which is his enduring legacy.

She had her first cosmetic surgery at the age of 15 and then had a sex change in her final year of high school. Once a married suburban housewife, she fled her failing marriage for the bright lights and exciting scene of NYC.
