Genesis P-Orridge and his troupe of godstars are heading up north again. Saturday 29. september at Blå – and i could hold my breath ´til then ... but i have to prepare.

I`ve been granted an interview with Genesis P-Orridge. Though we´ve met before, it was just a social meet and greet – however, he called out from stage «Here comes your song», pointed at me and started playing «Godstar» ... I will never grow up – i´m such an idolizer. That said, you could do far worse than to idolize someone as gentle, intelligent and inspirational as Genesis P-Orridge.

I discovered Psychic TV through my obsession with Marc Almond and Soft Cell. And after that Coil of course. Musick, Magick & Mayhem.

Genesis P-Orridge was not only a pioneer of industrial music, but Psychic TV was well into the wave of sound that would become techno and acid house. «Re-mind» from the album «Peak Hour» (Temple Records 1993) is a perfect example of magick mixed with rhythm.

Thighpaulsandra came to my attention through his work with Coil, and later i found he´d worked with various acts like Spiritulized and Julian Cope.

What drew me to him in the end was the controversy over the artwork of his release «Double Vulgar» (2005). The artwork for the album caused some controversy with several printers not willing to reproduce the homoerotic imagery.

The follow up, «Double Vulgar II» was delayed, possibly for the same reason, along with the passing of friend and colleague John Balance of Coil.

This unapologetically queer release shows masturbatory artwork of Thighpaulsandra sacrificing young model boy Chris Jones.
The images go through the various states of capture until the boy’s dead body is lying naked in a field.

RUNAWAYS HEAD TO THE BIGSCREEN


The '70s teenage band the Runaways has a new gig. Producers Art and John Linson will be bringing their rough and tumble coming-of-age story to the bigscreen in "Neon Angels."

Floria Sigismondi, who directed videos for David Bowie, the White Stripes and Marilyn Manson, will write and direct the drama about girls brought together by Kim Fowley, creating a band that would set the stage for girl groups like the Go-Go's and the Bangles.

The Linsons secured music rights and deals that allow them to tell the stories of members Joan Jett, Cherie Currie and the late Sandy West. An unpublished memoir written by lead singer Curie will be used as a resource for a drama that intends to bare all the drugs, sex and heartache experienced by girls who struggled to be viewed as musicians, not sex kittens with guitars.

"We certainly utilized to our advantage our image as teenage girls who wore titillating clothes," Jett told Daily Variety. "But we also became an excellent band and made it OK for girls to play rock 'n' roll. It got hard once people focused more on what we were wearing than what we were playing."

The group fared better in countries like England, Japan and Scandinavia, and broke up in 1979. Jett went on to solo success.

"Looking back, I loved that period of my life," she said. "Growing up, my fantasy was to play in a rock band, become famous and make a hit record."

Art Linson said the film will be financed independently, which he did recently on the Sean Penn-directed "Into the Wild" and the Robert De Niro starrer "What Just Happened?" That will allow "Neon Angel" to be R-rated and edgy, factors that were important to Jett and Curie.

Jett will be exec producer, along with her longtime
manager

What i want to share is a favourite from Soft Cell. The tune «Sex Dwarf» has been doing numerous rounds on turntables in clubs and at parties where i´ve played.

Around easter i went to London, and in Rough Trade i found this amazing 12”, see-through red vinyl.
On one side: Soft Cell «Sex Dwarf». On the other side: Nitzer Ebb «Join In The Chant». Both tunes remixed by Peter Black.

I remember searching high and low for the shock-video to «Sex Dwarf». The original version of the music video featured Marc Almond and Dave Ball in a bloody butcher shop surrounded by chainsaws, nude actors, and dwarves. However, the film was confiscated by police and censored before it was even released. As a tongue-in-cheek substitute, a re-filmed «Sex Dwarf» appeared in «Non-Stop Exotic Video Show» featuring Marc Almond dressed in a tuxedo, directing a symphony orchestra of dwarves.

R.I.P Isabella Blow

Stylist and fashion guru Isabella Blow, a vibrant and often outrageous presence on the British fashion scene, has died, her husband said. She was 48.

Detmar Blow said she died in the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in western England. News reports said she had recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Renowned for her larger-than-life hats and blood-red lipstick, Blow was credited with discovering designer Alexander McQueen and milliner Philip Treacey. She helped launch the careers of models including Stella Tennant and Sophie Dahl.


Most recently, Blow was an editor-at-large for Tatler magazine.

«She was in the office just last week, bursting with ideas. They sounded impossible, but you always knew with Isabella it would work and be marvelous» Tatler Editor Geordie Greig told The Daily Telegraph. «She was bored by cliches. She didn't do ordinary or dull.»

Born Isabella Delves Broughton in London in 1958, Blow moved to New York in 1979 to study ancient Chinese art at Columbia University. She soon dropped out and moved to west Texas to work for Guy Laroche.

In 1981, she met Anna Wintour, then fashion director of U.S. Vogue, and was hired as her assistant.

«I don't think she ever did my expenses, but she made life much more interesting» Wintour told The Times newspaper on Monday.

Blow later returned to London, where she worked for Tatler, the Sunday Times and British Vogue.

She met Detmar, an art dealer, at a wedding in 1987. They became engaged just 16 days later and married the following year.

Blow asked Treacey to design her bridal headdress, and a fashion collaboration was born.

She would serve as muse for a host of Treacey headgear, including «The Ship» _ a replica 18th century clipper in full rigging. Another creation, the «Gilbert & George» _ a mass of pink and green lacquered ostrich feathers stuck into a mortar board _ was so wide that Blow was unable to navigate the door of the charity event for which she had ordered it.

A 2002 exhibition and accompanying book, «When Philip Met Isabella» featured Blow in some of Treacey's most memorable creations.

«I don't use a hat as a prop. I use it as a part of me» she told The Guardian newspaper before the exhibition's launch. «If I am feeling really low, I go and see Philip, cover my face and feel fantastic.»
